1. Creation of Product in Response to Goal, Global Context, and Criteria
I successfully created a product that responded to my goal, global context, and product criteria as I did indeed crochet a blanket by hand. I achieved this goal by consulting my criteria regularly to ensure that I was satisfying the specifications I had set. I also made a conscious effort to follow my action plan. My goal and product related to the global context of globalization and sustainability since learning how to crochet increased my self-sufficiency, and making a blanket enabled me to personally satisfy a material need. Specifically, this related to a focus on the impact of decision-making on humankind and the environment. I actively made a choice not to support mass-produced fast fashion, which meant a reduction in two key matters: 1) greenhouse gas emissions, as I didn't have to transport merchandise into Hong Kong; and 2) dependence on sweatshop labor since I was making the blanket myself. This directly responded to the key question "How is everything connected?" as my decision to handmake a blanket reflected the understanding that dependence on factory-made imports reinforced questionable labor practices and compromised the earth's health. |
